You were born from your mother and father. But you are not your mother or father. You are yourself. You are your own master. You are responsible for your own well-being.
It's very important that you take care of yourself. If you are good, your heart will grow as wide and beautiful as the sky. If you are good, your body will grow big and strong.
Follow the lead of our teacher Buddha. Be kind to everyone. Make lots of friends. Eat all your meals. Remember to take care of both your mind and body.
*As parents, we must create an environment that fosters growth. We must provide advice to prevent missteps, yet lovingly watch over our children. When in doubt, Buddha's teachings are a solid source of support. (Buddha is our Teacher, pg 59.)
As the new year approaches,I hope each and every one of us can take responsibility for ourselves and live the Buddhist life as best as we can.
