Good Morning!
I can't believe it's so hot today! Please try to stay cool and hydrated.
I've been known to dwell on the past and worry about the future. I spend time thinking about what I should've done even though it makes no difference to the outcome - it already happened. This reminds me of a Dharma message from Reverend Unno. He told us that we need to live in the present, not the past or future. We can not change the past nor can we predict the future - just live in the present.
Buddhism teaches us to do all that we can in the present. In the book Buddha is our Teacher, they teach us to "Do all that you can, the best that you can, in the present."
A quote from Bhaddekaratta-sutta, "Do not chase after what happened in the past. Do not expect too much in the future. Things of the past have been discarded, and the future has not yet arrived. So concentrate the mind on what needs to be done today."
We should teach our kids that when they are in school, they should focus on what the teacher is saying. When they are playing sports, they should focus on playing that sport. When they are doing a chore, they should focus on completing that chore. What's important is that you do your best on whatever you are doing.
I will try to live in the present and be thankful that I am alive today to enjoy it.

News:
Please check the temple website for exciting news about our virtual Obon. We have a Silent Auction with an array of wonderful things, virtual Obon dancing schedule, Beef Teriyaki sale (pick up only - deadline to order is July 15th), special Obon Onenju Memorial opportunity, and more.
Also, don't forget that there are many avenues to learn and listen to the Dharma. Many temples have live stream and recorded sessions, BCA has a YouTube channel, Facebook, and Twitter, and of course, our own Sensei has recorded messages too. Please take advantage of all these great avenues.
Take care and be safe.
