Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you were able to enjoy some of the virtual obon events last weekend. It was very heartwarming to see people whom I never saw before attend the Zoom Obon Odori. Thank you to all the people who made the whole Virtual Obon possible (and a success!)
This week's message is "Pray for the happiness of all".
If you wish to follow along in the book Buddha is our Teacher, please turn to pages 30-31.
It's said that "Your happiness alone is not enough. Think about the feelings of others. Pray that everyone in the world can find happiness." The Buddha hoped that all people in the world would be happy. If we want every day to be fun and full of laughter, we also have to wish for the happiness of everyone in the world. I like the passage from the Suttanipata 147, "Whether they are seen or unseen, whether they live far or not far, whether they are born or going to be born, may living beings be happy."
Let's try our best to make all living beings "happy", however small or big the gesture. We recently delivered care packages to some of our senior members. I believe this made not only the recipients "happy", but also the givers "happy". The people who I had the opportunity to deliver to were very grateful for care packages. I think it was not only the packages, but also the human contact and our concern for their well being during this unprecedented time. Just a simple "hello, how are you?" can bring happiness to others. So, "Hello, how are you?" ☺ Be happy everyone!
Gassho,
Lynne
